Intended Learning Outcomes

When you complete this module you will be able to:

  1. 1.Review and critically appraise different perspectives on globalisation and its impact on global health and well being

  2. 2.Explain the relationship between globalisation and population migration.

  3. 3.Review and critically appraise the impact of globalisation on health in a named geographical region.

  4. 4.Explain and critically analyse migration trends and international responses to migration

  5. 5.Explain and critically analyse international demographic trends and their relationship to population health.


Indicative Module Content

During this module you will explore the impact of globalisation and migration on the health well being of migrants and host communities. This will include exploration of theoretical perspectives on globalisation, the impact of globalisation on factors that influence health, migration and demographic change Environmental change trade, work distribution of economic resources, global communication, social expectations and cultural change.


Assessment

Values Exchange Seminar Response (30%)

You will engage in online debate and discussion making use of facilities available on the University’s  Blackboard and Values Exchange learning environments.


Review Report (70%)

A review report (3,500 word equivalent) on a negotiated topic selected from the indicative module content.

Outline

The module will develop your understanding of the relationships between globalisation, migration health and wellbeing. You will also examine ethical, political and cross cultural issues related to globalisation, migrant worker and refugee experiences, immigration and asylum policies.
