Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module you will be able to:

  1. 1.Make use of available supervision and prior learning to develop methods and techniques appropriate for independent study of an agreed international health topic

  2. 2.Explain and analyse the complex nature and scope of health challenges in a chosen geographical region.

  3. 3.Review and critically evaluate a range of social, cultural, economic and political factors that influence and contribute to health challenges in a chosen geographical region.

  4. 4.Review and critically appraise local and international interventions designed to improve health in the chosen geographical area.

  5. 5.Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the complexity of ethical and cross cultural issues and their relevance to professional and research practice in health related contexts.


Indicative Module Content

The module enables you to carry out a case study or literature review on a topic of personal interest. Module content will be negotiated with your supervisor prior commencement of the module. Formative assessment will take place through use of seminar presentations and online peer review.


You will be supported via online guidance materials, electronic and, or face to face supervision tutorials and workshops according to your mode of attendance.

Report (100%)

This module provides an opportunity for you to study a topic of your own choice. You will develop a study proposal and negotiate your study plan and report style and format with a named supervisor. Module reports can be presented in any agreed format- Written, audio visual, mixed media, online by negotiation with the module leader and your supervisor. Reports should address the intended module learning outcomes and relate these clearly to an agreed topic.


Outline

Students choosing this module will, subject to agreement by the module leader of a formal study proposal, carry out an independent study on an international health topic of relevance to their own professional or academic interests. Students are encouraged to consider topics of relevance to their future professional and academic development.
