Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module you will be able to:

  1. 1.Evaluate different visual methods and their relevance to professional practice

  2. 2.Demonstrate critical awareness of the professional and ethical implications of using visual methods in practice

  3. 3.Describe and critically evaluate use of selected visual methods in small scale pilot activities.

  4. 4.Demonstrate visual literacy skills and systematically apply these within an analytical framework for professional practice.

  5. 5.Develop and use visual methods to support professional practice.


Indicative Module Content

The module will provide a theoretical, methodological and practical foundation in the use of visual methods for professional practice across a range of health and social settings. Methods will include, photography, video, visual mapping, physical modelling, display etc. You will learn how to use a range of visual methods applicable to different professional roles and explore their potential as professional strategies for interpersonal communication, engagement and collaboration with individuals and communities in a variety of professional settings. You are expected to draw on your own professional experiences to complete the module assessment.


Assessment


Reflective Journal analysis (100%)

You will produce a reflective journal outlining and reflecting upon the use of selected visual methods in your practice setting. Practice settings can include clinical, community, educational or social care environments. Your Journal will demonstrate critical awareness and evaluation of selected visual methods in practice. You will need to make a clear statement demonstrating how you have taken into account relevant ethical issues.
