Health improvement actions aim to promote and support population health and well being in the widest sense through activities such as health promotion, community engagement and education, as well as through cultural, social, economic and policy developments.
Recent global phenomena such as increased migration, demographic change, epidemiological transition, globalisation, the development of digital communications networks and political conflict around the world, have contributed to an increasing need to understand the international context of public health for practitioners in the UK and abroad. The rapid development of Internet technologies has narrowed the communication gap between academics, researchers and health professionals working in different countries. Our personal experiences of working with academics, researchers, health professionals and communities around the world, have inspired and informed our decision to maximise use of these rapidly developing digital technologies within this programme. We will make extensive use of electronic communication systems such as Email, Social Networking, Video and Podcasting as well as making full use of the University’s Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment and the Values Exchange.
